oh la la, developed film
July 30, 2010

Finally got one developed roll I shot over in Paris on easter (and the preceding weeks) — remember the film order, right? — there are still a few pictures on another one, but that'll have to wait.
I sure hope it doesn't take half as long as this one.

It's a Velvia 100F (expired past March) which is supposed to be pretty decent.
But what really surprised me was the difference in overall quality (color, detail, sharpness, etc.) that I got with the new Zuiko 50mm, simply stunning.

I'll let you be the judge of these samples (still editing).

I still need to find a better scanner, or rather: a decent one. I can assure you the film itself looks oh so much better than the scanned and processed images.

MBP i7 first steps
June 06, 2010

Got a 2010 MBP — yay!
Intel i7 2.66 GHz, 4GB RAM, 500GB HD, hi-res display with anti-glare coating.

Here's a small unboxing/first boot video just for kicks.

Gotta get a vimeo pro account for HD embedding, any kind souls?

House season finale & the 5DMKII
May 18, 2010

Just watched House season finale and was drooling the entire episode.
I still can't believe they shot the entire thing with the Canon 5D MarkII...

House 5DMKII

As the Director - Greg Yaitanes - said, they had to shoot in very tight spaces and that's the main reason why they went with the 5D. Another reason, a more aesthetic one, is that he particularly enjoyed the very shallow DOF possible by the 35mm size sensor.

All comes together in a very visually original and interesting episode.
At some point they used CG on top of the footage - meaning there's room (and quality) for professional use - and I must say I barely noticed any noise. These cameras are definitely a game-changer and this proves it more than ever.

Don't forget to listen to the 1-hour interview with Philip Bloom. Also if you're into this whole video DSLR stuff be sure to watch the full feature City of Lakes.

Scanning medium format shots
April 13, 2010

On new year's eve I shot some pictures with my brother girlfriend's Hasselblad 500 C/M — nothing big, just a tryout of the camera.

After developing the film I was waiting for my brother to scan them on a Epson Perfection V750 Nikon Coolscan 9000 ED, since my old V200 doesn't scan anything bigger than 35mm. It seems I'll lay my hands on those files this weekend...until then, a small preview.
